Pilot Mound is a town of about 200 population in northwest Boone County, Iowa. We are well situated in central Iowa, being about 15 minutes northwest of Boone, 30 minutes northwest of Ames, 30 minutes southeast of Fort Dodge, 30 minutes northeast of Jefferson, and 30 minutes west of Story City and Interstate 35. All of these cities have excellent employment opportunities.

We are 3 miles from the Des Moines River and 2 miles from Don Williams Recreation Area.

We are served by Black Hills Energy natural gas, Midland Power Electric Co-Op.,Webster-Calhoun Telephone Co-Op., Lehigh Services Cable TV, and city owned, state approved water system and sewer system. We are part of the Southeast Webster-Grand school system.

Pilot Mound is a prominent land-mark from which the town and township got their name. It is the second highest point in Boone County and on a clear day several towns and a lot of countryside can be seen.
