Community Building
The Pilot Mound Community Center was built in 1993 to replace the old I.O.O.F hall built around 1910.
The new building was funded in many ways, with a start from money raised by community co-operation serving riders on the RAGBRAI #17 in 1989. Also a big boost to the project was grants from the Leonard Good Trust. Many other fund raisers were held including a hand made quilt from the quilters of the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church, that was raffled off . Other fund raisers were dances and raffles of items donated.
Money donations from Pilot Mound school alumni and others who care about Pilot Mound. Also, the interior was completed by volunteer labor.
The Community Center contains the city council meeting room, a full kitchen, a multi-purpose room that can seat 220 and is available for graduation parties, wedding receptions, funeral lunches, birthday parties, family gatherings, business meetings, etc. There is a playground and basketball court adjacent to the building.
For information on use of the building, contact Jane Zaleak at 515-353-4256.
